IPad Air 3: Semi-Pro [Video]

The iPad Air 3 is a continuation of the legendary iPad iPad 2 iPad 2. The second generation of iPad Air has introduced a thinner profile, a laminated digitizer and Apple Touch Tablet for the first time. IPad Air 2 was also well-known for its speed – for the first time with 2GB of memory in every iOS device and a new chip that puts emphasis on video card performance.

Looking back at iPad Air 2, of course, the third-generation model has some big shoes to fill. And as you will see from our iPad Air 3 review, it turns out to be worthy if not a bit boring tracking, as it is essentially iPad Pro Lite.

    Unboxing

    Inside the iPad Air 3 box you will find the typical things you usually find in unboxing on iPad. There is only an iPad Air 3 device, regulatory / legal information package, user guide, and Apple stickers. ” width=”1000″ height=”500″ srcset=”https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg 1920w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg?resize=155,78 155w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg?resize=655,328 655w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg?resize=768,384 768w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg?resize=1024,512 1024w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg?resize=350,175 350w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg?resize=1600,800 1600w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-Unboxed.jpg?resize=290,145 290w” sizes=”(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px”/>

Unlike the new iPad Pro models that use USB-C and come with a new 18W power adapter, Apple includes the typical Lightning to USB-A cable and 12W power adapter in the third-generation iPad Air box.

Apple launched the second-generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro, released in June 2017, as an inspiration for iPad Air 3. The most obvious indicator of this is when we look at its shape. Instead of a 9.7-inch display similar to the previous generation of iPad Air, the new model features a 10.5-inch screen with 2224×1668 resolution, similar to the second-generation iPad Pro. The backlight is also brighter (500 nits vs 450 nits) and features a stronger anti-reflection coating with only 1.8% reflectivity. The new iPad Air now supports True Tone, a display technology that automatically adjusts the white dot on the screen to match the ambient light in your environment. This is a technology that originally arrived along with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro 2016 and has slowly come to other iPads, iPhones and Macs. The third generation iPad Air is harder than the 2nd Generation Model (1.00 vs .0.96 pounds), but it has a slightly larger form factor coupled with – Higher display and reduced frames. This leads to a tablet that looks more like a more modern iPad Air 2.

The look of the new iPad Air 3 is very similar to the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, but it is the processor that really puts it into the iPad Pro Lite ". IPad Air 3 comes with the same 6-core A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine, located in the flagship of the iPhone on Apple's smartphone, which means the performance gets a massive upgrade over the A8X found on the iPad Air 2, the best 2017 iPad Pro.

The rear 8-megapixel f / 2.4 camera looks very similar to the hardware found in the iPad Air 2, which means pictures and videos, will not be great, but it also means there is no boom on the camera. I do not shoot many photos or videos with my iPad, so I'm glad to take an obsolete camera if it means there's no camera boom.

The F / 2.2 FaceTime HD camera on the other hand gets a nice 7 megapixel upgrade from the fierce 1.2 megapixel arrow found on iPad Air 2. And instead of 720p HD video recording, the new FaceTime HD camera supports Full HD 1080p shooting together with Retina Flash. Battery life remains the same thanks to the larger lithium-polymer battery with 30.2 watts. This allows the device to support its 10-hour resource for the whole day of the battery, despite the larger display and faster processor. The release of iPad Air 3 is the first time that Smart Connector is used exclusively to place Apple's smart keyboard, appearing on the iPad without putting the "Pro" brand. That's why the same smart keyboard that works with the 10.5-inch second-generation iPad Pro also works with the new 10.5-inch iPad Air 3.

The artists and fruitful notebooks will enjoy to learn that the iPad Air 3 works with the first-ever Apple Pencil or the more budget Logitech Crayon. Therefore, if you are a student or a creative professional who wants to move to a tablet-based workflow, then iPad Air has just become a legitimate option for you. ” width=”1000″ height=”500″ srcset=”https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg 1920w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg?resize=155,78 155w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg?resize=655,328 655w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg?resize=768,384 768w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg?resize=1024,512 1024w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg?resize=350,175 350w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg?resize=1600,800 1600w, https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/04/iPad-Air-3-vs-2018-iPad-Logitech-Crayon.jpg?resize=290,145 290w” sizes=”(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px”/> [19659025] Where the 10.5-inch iPad Pro Stays Better

I refer to the new iPad Air 3 as iPad Pro "Lite" because, although it is highly inspired by the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, it lacks some of the pro-hardware

First of all, the iPad Air 3 does not support ProMotion, the adaptive display refresh technology that delivers smoother screen interaction improved Apple Pencil support. It's hard to explain why ProMotion is so good without seeing it in action but the best way to describe it is that it makes scrolling smoother, screen content is easier to read while scrolling and decreases latency of Apple Pencil. Another big difference is that the 2017 iPad Pro has a much more superior back camera that supports 4K video capture. The 12-megapixel f / 1.8 camera on this iPad Pro model still behaves well and is even equipped with optical image stabilization, a feature that is lacking in current iPad Pro models.

The latest iPad Pro also comes with 4GB of RAM while the 2019 iPad Air sports 3GB of RAM. It is largely supposed that the additional GB RAM in iPad Pro is supporting the adaptive ProMotion display technology that the new iPad Air does not have.

The performance of the iPad Air 3 video card is not as good as the 2017 10.5-inch iPad Pro

And although the A12 Bionic chip delivers much faster CPU performance than the A10X found in 2017, the iPad Pro, the A10X has better performance in GPU computing, which is not surprising, given that it is an X-branded chip that puts more emphasis on graphics processor performance. Therefore, if you are a gamer or someone who works with other tasks requiring intensive use of GPUs, the 2017 iPad Pro may perform better in some areas.

The ultimate difference between the two models is the lack of quad-speaker support, making landscape stereo sound a major part of the iPad Pro models. Instead, iPad Air 3 offers a simple setting for stereo speakers. In my opinion, this is not a big deal to offer a middle class like Air 3, but this is a noticeable change when watching movies and listening to music if you are

    Fill the gap

If iPad Air 3 is just a simple version on iPad Pro, then why does it exist? At first I was thinking about it, but it is actually very clear. Put simply, iPad Air 3 exists to fill Apple's average range. While there was a huge gap between the initial level of $ 329 iPad and $ 799 iPad Pro, there is now a mid-range tablet that gives potential buyers more opportunities.

The price is the most important thing for you, then the entry level of the $ 329 iPad is still the best purchase of the entire iPad range. Still, it's a device that is limited in many ways that iPad Air 3 strives to do it.

Big upgrade over budget $ 329 iPad

The most obvious difference between iPad and iPad 3 is the size of the screen. The iPad of 329 dollars comes with a 9.7-inch display, but thanks to the reduced frames of the 10.5-inch iPad Air 3, the distance between the two devices is almost the same. Although it has a screen that is about one inch smaller, the $ 329 iPad is slightly heavier than the iPad Air 3 and is noticeably thicker.

<img title = "iPad Air 3 review: Semi-Pro [Video]" class = "aligncenter wp-image-587265 size-full" src = "https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/ iPad Air 3 iPad-3-vs-2018-iPad-Thickness.jpg? quality = 82 & strip = all "alt = iPad Air 3 Display Technology is the largest distinction between the two devices. One of my ongoing complaints of 2017 and 2018 on the iPad's initial level is related to screen quality or lack thereof, and internal hardware lacks a laminated digitizer, resulting in a noticeable air gap that causes reflections. -expensive models, also l comes with Apple's budget for the budget, and you have a display that definitely outperforms iPad Air 3. Casual users who are only interested in checking e-mail and browsing Facebook may not be interested, but anyone who comes from iPad Air 2 or higher will immediately recognize these flaws in the iPad

     Comparison of iPad Air 3

While receiving support for Apple Pencil last year, the $ 329 iPad does not support version of the Smart Keyboard because it does not have a Smart Connector. If you're a person planning to use your iPad to write long-form content, it's something to consider. You can always pair a cheap Bluetooth keyboard, but the smart keyboard provides a more seamless experience. While the Apple A10 chip in the iPad budget is decent enough for modest tasks, it is not near the CPU or GPU performance of the A12 Bionic found on the new iPad Air 3. With this in view, iPad Air will enjoy a longer shelf life than the budget iPad. Other options for viewing …

If you choose to configure your iPad Air 3 with cellular connectivity and 256GB of storage, you will have to decide whether it is worth upgrading to iPad Pro . The difference between our maximum iPad Air 3 and the base model, the 11-inch iPad Pro, is only $ 20, and Apple undoubtedly appreciates it in this way to get buyers to consider moving to the next level.

iPad Pro offers a larger display, significantly more exciting design, along with improvements such as ProMotion, USB-C and Face ID. At present, it is heavily restricted by iOS 12, but has a higher ceiling when it comes to getting new features through future iOS updates. Do not forget to read our full review of the 2018 iPad Pro to see how it is used.

There's also an iPad 5 5 that comes out with the new iPad Air 3. iPad mini 5 iPad Air 3 in the body of the iPad mini. This is the tablet to get if portability is the most important thing for you. It has most of the features of the iPad Air 3 but obviously lacks a larger display and does not come with Smart Connector to connect a smart keyboard. Again, if portability exceeds everything else in your eyes, then iPad mini is a great opportunity and you do not have to make any sacrifices for productivity. Apple was in need of the mid-range tablet offering, and the iPad Air 3 responded well. This is anything but exciting for experienced iPad users, and it does not bring anything on the table that we have not seen before, although it fills an important necessity in Apple's ranking. IPad can be $ 499, which gives users a much polished and better overall tablet experience without getting into the price of laptops. If you are planning to make your iPad your main computer, do a service and spend an extra $ 179 more to get iPad Air 3. Not only is you getting better performance but also a ridiculously better display, it also supports Intelligent keyboard.

iPad Air 3 is boring, but in the Toyota Camry, this model is a boring type of vehicle. This is a middle-class tablet with an average price that makes very little compromise, but it's also something exciting.

What do you do with iPad Air 3? The sound is down below in the comments with your thoughts and opinions.
