9599003] I knew what was going on, but I do not think Kevin did that, "says Hartley. "I do not think he ever expected this to happen. By the very end he had the impression that he was still controlling this thing.

Executive Producer / Co-Exhibitor Isaac Aptacker notes that the sudden end of Kevin's long emotional journey to get to the truth behind him The Jack Medallion "was a real blow" to (former) Manny. "That's a low point, and he turned to what he was turning to go through what the bottle was."

In a frank conversation with TVLine, Hartley explores the "family schism" that has unfolded over the past few episodes. seriously challenged Kevin's memories of Jack. "All this thing he was thinking about his father," he says, "has now been turned into his ear."

] TVLINE | What is going through your mind when you first hear that Kevin will drink a drink after so long?
One of the things I thought was if he called Zoia and she chose it. up on the phone, and they could talk about what's going on, maybe even for a minute, wondering if he was going down this road, you know? It's a real thing, it's happening all the time. People become sober, then "fall from the wagon" and again soberly … This is a daily struggle for him. I hope this time will do it well. Hopefully it will not be that big and huge thing for him. But God, that's heartbreaking, is not it? Because I feel like he's gone far and now, here we are again.

This is us Season 3 Episode 12 TVLINE | How do you think this development could happen between Kevin and Zoe?
There are many things that go with him, right? This idea that he is under the control of this thing and their relationship is based on this fact. And then he will understand that he is obviously not, at least not right now. He does not care for himself. Kevin, he has this great, great spirit. And he has this idea that he can solve a few problems. He is really good at fixing other people, or helping others, and is there in a moment of need.

Just to go through it: He goes out of rehabilitation and immediately begins to raise prospects for work and goes to the movie premiere, which obviously goes very well. And then he meets a woman, falls in love with her and makes her move to his place – and we do not see him at meetings [Alcoholics Anonymous]. We do not see it with a sponsor. We do not see him talking about alcohol. He does what he did before with his father, and it's so interesting how the patterns are repeated. He was the one who kept saying, "Listen, I do not have to cry all the time. My father is dead, a great job, is not it? This has happened a long time ago. I'm done. This is good. Keep going. "And then you realize that this is just his way of dealing with him – not to deal with him – and that's the same thing he does with his addiction, and he comes back to bite him.

There is shame, there is humiliation, there is helplessness, there is a sense of failure. There is a feeling I've lied to these people, now I have to take the pieces. He'll probably go to some hiding place to try to make sure people do not see what's really up to, which is a sign. So everything will probably fall apart for him. I hope he does not, but he probably will.

TVLINE | Up there is that when this happens to him, you will get good things to play.
[ Laughs ] Well, yes. I know. What selfish thing to say, but I absolutely, 100% agree with you.

TVLINE | You are delivering AA meetings. I would have mentioned that we have not seen him in something like this. Are you saying that this does not happen outside the screen?
Yes … I thought, "Well, maybe they just do not write it. Maybe he goes to meetings and they just do not write it. But you know, our writers do not. It would be a comment. He would, you know, instead of going through the door and being like, "Oh yes, I was meeting the producer," [Zoe] would say, "How was your meeting?" And he would say. , "It was good," and then they would continue with their lives. [The writers] I do not smile anything, so I really believe it just does not go. I do not have this as a fact, but here's how I play it that he's just, he neglects to take care of himself in the middle of caring for everyone else and to make sure that this new relationship, which he has to do well and to deal with Vietnam, to deal with Zoe and all her things and say I do not want to move and slow things down with her and then return it. I think he just neglects the concern for himself, honestly.
