Less than two weeks after undergoing surgery for a broken and sprained thumb, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff will be active for Saturday̵

7;s wild card game against the Seattle Seahawks. However, coach Sean McVeigh confirmed to Fox Sports’ Jay Glaser that Goff will serve as John Walford’s reserve on Saturday as the sophomore receives a vote in the opening playoffs.

McVeigh was tailored about his situation in QB during the week leading up to the NFC West playoff battle on Saturday. Goff officially returned to practice with limited participation, but according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it was Walford who saw most of the first team. The coaching staff prepared him to start this week, which seemed to be an internal indicator that things were going this way for Goff.

While McVeigh noticed that Goff did well in practice, the question of his effectiveness during the game due to the fact that the restoration of the right thumb still seems to be a problem for the staff and why he will be active in emergencies for this race.

Walford, who had not missed a pass from the NFL before the 17th week, started instead of Goff against the Cardinals in the regular season finale. The former Wake Forest raw product was 22-of-38 for 231 yards and one interception, as well as 56 quick yards, for the Rams win to help enter the season.

If the story is any indication, this may not be the best news for the rams that will climb after a Seahawks team that seems to be picking up just in time for veteran Russell Wilson. Since 2002, quarterbacks making their first playoff starter (like Walford), against non-quarterback quarterbacks (like Wilson), are 15-31. To move Walford to Los Angeles in the divisional round, he will have to face a bit of NFL history.
