Jennifer Lopez sang Neil Diamond’s classic “Sweet Caroline” in honor of her mother in Global Citizen’s “Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World” on Sunday night.
But sources in the crowd could not help but notice that the song was also a Red Sox anthem – and that Lopez’s former Boston-born Ben Affleck appeared at the concert in a segment immediately after its performance.
The tune has been played in every home game at Fenway Park for nearly 20 years.

Affleck, 38, was the show’s host with comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who mocked Affleck’s role as Batman and the star’s preference for Dunkin Donuts.
Page Six previously reported that Lopez, who had just broken up with former Yankee Yankee Alex Rodriguez, and Affleck had spent time together since she returned to Los Angeles from the set of her latest film to begin rehearsals for the concert on Saturday night.
Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck HAVE MEETINGS AMONG ALEX RODRIGUEZ SPLIT: REPORT
Affleck is believed to have visited Lopez’s Bel Air mansion several times during the day, but the former are strictly friends – and have always been – sources say. Both had previously appeared at the star-studded Vax Live concert.
On the show, 51-year-old Lopez sang “Sweet Carolina” with her mother Guadalupe, joining her on stage. The pop star told the crowd from the song selection: “When I was thinking what song to sing tonight, I remembered the song [her mother] he always sang to me when I was a baby … if you indulge me, I’d love to sing it tonight. “
But some fans in the crowd at SoFi Stadium couldn’t help but raise their eyebrows. “It’s a 100 percent Boston song,” an insider said during the set.
In fact, “Sweet Carolina” is played at Fenway Park during the eighth inning of every home game in Boston. The tradition officially began in 2002, when the band’s CEO noticed the crowd’s connection to the song when it was released in the late ’90s.
JENNIFER LOPEZ, THE LAST BEN AFFLEK GATHERED “FRIENDLY, NOT ROMANTIC”: REPORT
Affleck is such an unwavering Red Sox fan, reportedly refusing to wear a Yankee hat when shooting his hit movie “Gone Girl.” He reportedly told director David Fincher, “I’m not going to wear a Yankee hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to happen. I’ll never hear the end of it. I can’t do it.”
Sources also said that Lopez’s set includes the feminist pop anthem “Ain’t Your Mama”, which includes lyrics, “We were crazy in love / Can we go back to how it was / When you became too comfortable / Because Too good I’m for it / I’m too good for it. “
A source from the show joked, “It’s just a revenge kit.”
Immediately after Lopez’s performance, Affleck was introduced to the stage with Kimmel. Affleck wore a sharp black suit and white shirt, while Kimmel was comically dressed as Batman Robin’s assistant.
Kimmel asked Affleck why he hadn’t put on his Batman suit, and they comedically wrote it out of misunderstanding because Affleck had told him to “wear a suit.”

Sources told us that Kimmel told Affleck, “You told me we were getting dressed … I’m wearing my suit, and you’re not a suit!” He added, “You’re Batman, aren’t you!”
When Affleck replied embarrassed, “I’m trying to get past this,” Kimmel joked, “Oh, you’re trying to get past this? Do you think that when people see you pulling out Dunkin Donuts, they’ll say, ‘Oh, Hey, there’s a man from Employees 2? They’ll say, “Here’s Batman! Batman bought a lot of ice vanilla lattes. I hope Batman carries them all.”
Six exclusively announced in March that J.Lo and A-Rod, 45, were breaking up – although they said at the time that they were “working through certain things” before eventually leaving. They have been engaged since 2019.
