“I remember going through therapy in the early, you know, late 30s and there was a lot of talk about loving yourself and I was like ‘loving myself,'” Lopez told Shetty. “But obviously I was doing all these things like my personal relationships, which I didn’t think I loved myself, but I didn’t even understand the concept. It took time and it’s a journey and it’s still a journey for me. “
Until Lopez clarified which relationship was problematic, she married singer Mark Anthony in 2004 (the same year she and fiancé Ben Affleck separated). The former couple, who share 12-year-old twins Max and Emma, announced their separation in 2011 and Lopez continued to choreographer Casper Smart.
Lopez is also considering a year spent in quarantine with fiancé Alex Rodriguez and their combined children. The downtime proved to be a masked blessing as it forced them to take a break from their traditional non-stop schedules.
But Lopez, who said her goal is to “empower, inspire and entertain,” is still career-minded. Her last concert, performed at President Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony, included “America Beautiful” and Woody Guthrie’s 1944 song “This Land Is Your Land.” Making the performance his own, Lopez added a phrase from The Promise of Allegiance in Spanish and a line from his classic hit Let’s Get Loud.
Lopez still kept him humble, admitting that when she began her career as a dancer, she was not entirely confident in her skills. “I wasn’t always the best dancer – I was a great dancer, but I wasn’t the best dancer – and everyone is so competitive in these areas, but I knew from the beginning that I was putting something extra into it,” she said. I put my heart into it. In every move there was a purpose behind it. “
