Oakland Athletics leftist Jesus Luzardo received a broken throwing arm while playing a video game before Saturday’s start, manager Bob Melvin told reporters on Sunday.
Luzardo, who took the 8-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, slammed his hand on the table as he played the match, Melvin said. Athletics officials determined that Luzardo could pass, but an X-ray showed broken hairs on his pinks after the game.
The athletes put Luzardo on the injured list and called left-hander Adam Kolarek from the alternative training ground.
Auckland returns first teammate Matt Olson to the squad on Sunday. Olson had missed three games in a row after being hit in the left eye by a ball that bounced off the L-screen during wadding practice on Thursday.
