Syracuse, New York – After his team strengthened its position in the NCAA tournament with a 64-54 victory over Clemson on Wednesday, Syracuse coach Jim Boyheim took the opportunity in his post-match press conference to state the case of his team.
The victory over Clemson, plus Orange’s victory over North Carolina on Monday, sparked Orange’s NCAA hopes, which lagged behind last week’s loss to Duke and Georgia Tech.
“It’s hard to get to 9-7 in this league,” Boyheim said. “Very hard.”
Now Syracuse has to wait until the start of the ACC tournament next week to get its next chance to improve its NCAA profile. Syracuse is the lone team of the ACC, goodbye on the last weekend of the regular season.
Most NCAA bracket experts have Syracuse right on the doorstep of an NCAA bid, but are still looking outside.
“I think we’ve done a lot,” Boyheim said. “Really. I think it will be very difficult to choose the tournament this year. I don’t think our league gets enough respect. It’s part of it. I think we have very good teams. This year we don’t have a great team. We have very good teams. “Very good teams. We will see how everything develops in the end.”
Boeheim’s arguments on behalf of Orange do not include bad losses and an outstanding record against teams in NCAA Quadrants 2 and 3.
The weakness in Syracuse’s resume would be the lack of victory in quadrant 1. Orange is 0-6 against teams that fall in quadrant 1 of the NCAA.
“All I know for sure is that I think we’re 11-2 today in Quad 2 and 3, which is pretty good,” Boeheim said. “We haven’t won matches in quadrant 1, but we’ve won all of 2 and 3. We haven’t had bad losses and we haven’t lost in quadrant 4.”
Boeheim tried to claim that he did not pay attention to the bractologists, but his own words betrayed him, as he criticized the taunts, he admitted that he had seen them.
“I don’t look at it because I see a 0-8 team on the road this year and it’s in the tournament or on the edge,” Boyheim said. “I no longer pay attention to these things. I see teams with lost records that are still there. I mean, it’s all speculation. “
