Jim Parsons reveals he was auditioning to be in the NBC office before pursuing a career in The Big Bang Theory
Jim Parsons forged his fame as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, but before that he auditioned to be on NBC̵
The Houston-born, 47, made the revelation in a media call to promote his Fox Call Me Kat show on Tuesday, but did not specify which character he tried.
Parsons said he underestimated how successful the show would be before it aired in 2005, four years after the English version from which it was adapted.

“I was like, ‘How stupid, it’s about an office – if America wanted its own office show, they’d do it by now,'” The Boys in the Band actor said, according to Deadline.
The office continued to work for ABC from 2005 to 2013, helping for a number of careers of stars Steve Carell, Mindy Kaling, John Krasinski and Ryan Wilson, among others. He won critical acclaim with Emmy victories and has since continued to stream success through Netflix.
Parsons’ career has not gone awry either, as he starred in the Big Bang Theory for 12 seasons.
He is currently collaborating with one of his stars, Mayim Bialik, on the series Call Me Kat – which, like The Office, has been adapted from a British show called BBC Miranda.

Parsons, who is also the show’s executive producer, along with her husband Todd Spivak, said he was encouraged by the early results.
“I watch rehearsals, I watch the taps and I watch the shows, and I’m like, ‘It works,'” he said. “I don’t know if thousands of other people will like it, but it’s fine.”
In May 2018, Parsons congratulated his teammates in the Big Bang theory on an Instagram post, along with a shot in which he posed with stars Bialick, Kaylee Cuoco, Johnny Galeki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayar and Melissa Rauch.
“I’m so terribly grateful for the cast in this picture and for the cast members who aren’t portrayed here – whether they’ve been in one scene or many episodes along the way; you are all my playmates that I fell in love with and that became part of my life on and off the set, ”he said.

He continued: “You are my playmates when we don’t play, but we have to, because our job is to go out there and communicate and pretend to be these other fictional people and look each other in the eye and say these words and I end up creating this strange, different reality that has enriched my life more than I will ever fully understand.
“I will miss you all and all this more than I can say and more than I can know at the time.”
