Jimmy Kimmel was called up for his “white privilege” after saying he would report to his comedian John Oliver to ICE during the 72nd Emmy Awards.
The Emmy Awards kicked off in an unusual way on Sunday when the nominees dressed up to the nines and set up cameras in their homes to attend the virtual ceremony.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is once again eavesdropping on Kimmel to host the award show after two previous stays in 2012 and 2016.
But on Sunday, Kimmel upset some viewers when he joked about US immigration and customs law enforcement and John Oliver.
HBO’s final week tonight with John Oliver won an Outstanding Variety of Fifth Series for the Fifth Consecutive Year since 201
Each year, Oliver’s talk show grabs the Emmy Award and defeats Jimmy Kimmel live in the process.
After losing this year, Kimmel applauded the Englishman with a joke that fell through.
“Congratulations again to John Oliver, I will report it to ICE,” Kimmel said.
Shortly afterwards, many viewers took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the joke amid reports that immigrant women in a Georgia restaurant claimed to have undergone a “mass hysterectomy.”

“The amount of white privileges it takes Jimmy Kimmel to take the stage at a national television event and joke about ice and no one tells him it’s wrong is absolutely surprising to me,” one person wrote on Twitter. .
“@Jimmykimmel @ Emmy, what’s so funny about the ice?”
Another Twitter user admitted that he “doesn’t think Kimmel is that funny.
“Especially when he’s joking about ICE and the systemic horror they’re causing, or one of his other weird jokes.
One person noted that this is the month of the Spanish heritage and Kimmel’s joke appeared amid a small presentation of Latinx at the Emmy Awards.
“Happy month of Spanish heritage from #Emmy’s, where the only Latinx performance we received was Count von Count ft. Lin Manual [and] “America Ferrera presents an award and Jimmy Kimmel’s tasteless and sad joke,” they wrote.

Others share similar sentiments, pointing out that families face deportations from the ICE and that this is not to be laughed at.
“My father was deported. He was literally put on a plane with two federal agents. He was in chains. He was left at Heathrow Airport and that’s it, “one man wrote.
“It’s not funny to joke with an internal combustion engine, period. Joking with ICE on an awards show I was hoping to enjoy? Damn it, Jimmy Kimmel.
One writes that Ice is “tearing families apart” and another wonders how Kimmel can make a joke “in this political climate.”
Charlotte Climmer, an activist and writer, summed up her thoughts on the Internet, saying: “Ewwww … Jimmy Kimmel. No kidding about calling ICE, please. Thanks.’

Last week, a whistleblower who had previously worked at an ICE facility in Georgia filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security, alleging that “mass hysterectomies” had been performed on immigrant women.
Dawn Wooten, a former nurse at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, admitted in the complaint that some women may have had a hysterectomy, but “not everyone’s uterus can be that bad.”
She testified that the immigrant women were referred to an unidentified doctor outside the detention center because of the “high rate of hysterectomies” and many women did not understand why the procedure was performed.
“Everyone he sees has a hysterectomy – almost everyone,” Wooten said. “He even pulled out a young lady’s wrong ovary.”
ICE said in a statement that only two women have been referred to an external gynecologist for hysterectomy since 2018.
The Inspector General’s Office has launched an investigation into the matter.
