Lara Trump is considering running for the Senate in North Carolina

Republican Sen. Tom Tillis also won re-election for a second term this year by nearly 2 percentage points against scandal-ridden Democrat Cal Cunningham, an army veteran and former state senator. It became the most expensive Senate race in history, with the two parties spending nearly $ 300 million together, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Republicans currently have a 50-48 Senate advantage, with both seats in Georgia running in the Jan. 5 runoff election.

Lara Trump, who is married to President Eric’s son, was an adviser to her father-in-law’s campaign in 2016 and 2020, and was previously a television producer for Inside Edition.

First, the New York Times reports its consideration by the Senate.

North Carolina is likely to be one of the Democrats̵

7; top goals next year, along with seats in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, as they seek to either win a majority or retain control if they can win both runoffs in Georgia . It is not yet clear who will be the Democrats’ best candidate in the race. The state’s two most prominent Democrats, Gov. Roy Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein, won re-election this month, even as Joe Biden and Cunningham lost the state.

Lara Trump’s candidacy will prevent what is already likely to be a crowded primary GOP to replace Burr. Mark Meadows, the president’s chief of staff and a former state congressman, is considered a potential candidate. Retiring representative Mark Walker is also a likely contender after briefly considering the main challenge for Tillis last year. Former Gov. Pat McCrory and outgoing Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, who lost the governor’s race, may also be in the mix.

Burr chaired the Senate Intelligence Committee, which played a role in investigating the president’s ties to Russia and the country’s interference in the 2016 election. The committee was largely a collegial body in the Russian drama, largely free of partisan mud in Parliament’s colleague.
