On Monday, police identified the boy as 7-year-old Liam Husted of San Jose, California.
His mother, Samantha Moreno Rodriguez, 35, was detained in Denver by an FBI-led task force, Las Vegas police said. She was jailed for one count of open murder, according to the report and data from the online prison in Denver.
It is unclear whether Rodriguez has a lawyer. According to the news release, the authorities are looking for her extradition to Las Vegas.
CNN contacted the Las Vegas Police Department for more details.
Hasted’s body was found by tourists on May 28 in the area of Mountain Springs Trailhead near State Road 160 in Nevada, according to a police statement. The area is about 25 miles southwest of downtown Las Vegas.
Investigators had released a sketch and then enhanced images from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help search for the boys’ identities.
The FBI had offered a reward of up to $ 10,000 for information leading to the identity of the boy or someone involved in his murder.
It is unclear whether the reward was requested and the FBI did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for more information.
