LAS VEGAS – The Raiders left guard Richie Incognito, a four-time professional bowler, left the victory in Las Vegas on Monday night over the New Orleans Saints with an Achilles tendon injury.
The 37-year-old Incognito was cited as limited in practice on Friday and Saturday with the injury. He was replaced by rookie John Simpson in the second quarter. Incognito stood to the side, hands on hips and a hat with a ball on his head, as he spoke with an injured and inactive right kick Trent Brown in the second quarter.
In just six quarters of the 2020 season, the Raiders lost Incognito, Brown (calf) and Brown’s deputy, Sam Young (groin), due to injury. Denzel Good, usually a security guard, started on the right after replacing Young, who replaced Brown, in Carolina last week.
Short or not, the line has produced. The Raiders collected a total of 375 yards in the 34-24 victory over the Saints, and quarterback Derek Carr was not fired in a performance that included three touchdown passes.
Incognito is one of Mike Mayock’s best free agent signings since coming to the Raiders after the 2018 season, a year after Incognito took a one-year retirement.
Incognito, which has had its share of both problems and off-field, has not distracted Raiders since signing a “proof of deal” and then received a two-year contract extension worth up to $ 14 million, with guarantees over $ 6 million.
