Law & Order: SVU launches its premiere with a nod to Gunsmoke the series whose record has been surpassed in this season of storytelling 21. (Did you miss it?) go back and check out what's playing on the TV at the bar.) But after that brief, meta moment, Olivia Benson and Ko return to it – because even after two decades, the Perpi will be gone.
The episode opens with Carisi wrapping her desk and telling Rollins that she has turned her gun. Waiting for what? She treats him to one last drink with her, but it turns out that she's actually luring him to the bar so Benson, Dodds and the rest of the team can throw him some surprise fun.
Where is it going, you ask? For the District Attorney's Office: Carisi is the new DA Assistant and he will work for the Chief of the Hadid's Bureau (Hi, Lost Zuleih Robinson!).
The case of the week involves Sir Tobias Moore (hello, Deadwood Ian McShane!), Head of PicFlix, one of the largest studios and streaming services in the world. Since this is SVU and McShane is a landmark actor, you know that Tobias is probably a dog. And he is! We watch him Harvey Weinstein on his way through a so-called audition with a young pretty actress named Pilar: He turns on the camcorder, pours her a drink, criticizes her acting, and then tells her to take off her blouse. She cries as she tells him that he is not comfortable doing this. "You want that part, don't you?" He smiles.
Pilar reports on an interaction with SVU, saying that Tobias likes her, blocks her exit after she kicks him and forces her to watch him masturbate. The case becomes Carisi first in the courtroom.
Olivia and her team learn that Tobias is a frequent offender on #MeToo without any arrests. "He rapes them and then pays them off," Finn muses. In the course of the investigation, they find a whole bunch of women who say Tobias did the same with them – or worse – as he did with Pilar. Short story: He is rude.
There is a lot of back and forth, but eventually SVU gets a vice cop to pose as an aspiring actress, and she gets a private date with Tobias. He makes his disgusting click and they punch him as he chokes her. There is a huge perch walk with tons of press; during the dispute, a bunch of women were holding signs saying "Sir Toby attacked me" – many of them women who said they were not allowed to speak because of the PDP.
Although Carisi has had a bit of trouble with his new boss earlier in the episode, Hadid accepts the arrest as public gain and the latest ADA is safe. However, Dodds is sent to the Coventry Traffic and Safety Task Force. "The feathers were broken so the head should roll," he tells Olivia, very upset. But he tells her to let him go – and casually calls her Captain while he does. Yes, Liv has been promoted! "I made him a condition for my exile," he informed her, adding, "Don't worry about me. I'll be back. ”
