Jim Bob Moffett, former president and CEO of oil and gas giant Freeport-McMoRan, died at his home in Austin, Texas, on Friday night.

The news was confirmed to WDSU by family members.

Moffett co-founded and ran the Fortune 500 company from his downtown New Orleans office building for nearly 30 years.
