The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health allows clinics to throw unused vaccines in the trash instead of inoculating thousands of residents who desperately want to get shot, and this has infuriated at least one county chief on a mission to reverse this insane policy.
LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn responded to a story that erupted last week, where a clinic administering the vaccine to healthcare workers ended the day with 150 unused vials of the COVID vaccine that would spoil … because a huge number of people who registered were not showing up.
The clinic – the Inglewood Men’s Health Foundation – contacted people who were not on the priority list but desperately wanted the vaccine, and those people received the remaining doses. It is unbelievable that this contradicts the County Health Dept guidelines, which state that ONLY people on the priority list should be vaccinated, OTHERWISE THE VACCINES SHOULD REMAIN IN THE MOTHER.
We worked on this story for 4 days and walked back and forth with the health department, which never gave us an answer to our question – IT IS NOT BETTER TO VACCINATE NON-PRIORITY HOUSES, DO NOT PRAISE EXPENSIVE VACCINES IN BO? We never received an official answer to this question, but sources who called the Ministry of Health told us that they had decided not to take criminal action against clinics that reproduced the work of the Men’s Health Foundation. But this is a terrible decision.
Here’s the problem … politics still says that people without priority can’t get the vaccine now, so essentially clinics say it’s still wrong to vaccinate non-priority residents, even if the vaccines otherwise go to waste. What’s worse is that the county Department of Health has NEVER ACTED PUBLICLY, THAT THEY WILL NOT ACT AGAINST THESE CLINICS, so the fear is that the vaccines are thrown in the trash.
Supervisor Khan is outraged and wants the Ministry of Health to join the program and clarify this insane regulation … IMMEDIATELY.

The fact is that the department led by Barbara Ferrer, was completely unprepared for the vaccine and people in her department were furious. There was no real vaccination plan, despite the fact that everyone had known for months that vaccines were on the horizon.
To be real … it’s not common sense to throw away these life-saving vaccines, instead of creating a waiting list for NOBODY when there are unused vials that are no longer frozen and are about to spoil.
This is probably a problem across the country and it needs to be addressed now … as it is NOW.
