LSU broad-based successor Ja’Marr Chase has informed the team that he chooses to give up the football season in 2020 in order to focus on his professional career, sources close to the situation told CBS Sports on Sunday. Chase confirmed his departure from LSU in a comprehensive statement on social media on Monday, although he did not state a specific intention to declare the draft NFL for 2021

.

“The athlete in me really wants to play the season and fight my brothers, but in the meantime, with so many things, it’s the best thing for my family,” Chase wrote as part of his statement. “… I can’t ignore what I feel in my heart, and in the end this is the best solution for me. I will be happy to return to the field in 2021.”

Sources told CBS Sports on Sunday that Chase’s decision was not specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rather, it is thought that the agents may have simply persuaded Chase to leave before his third college season. NFL rules state that a player cannot be formed until three years after graduating from high school.

Chase, a rising teenager, is the college’s most notable player since the 2020 season. A unanimous selection of first-team teams from across America set SEC records last season for touchdown catches (20) and receiving yards (1,780). He won the Biletnikoff award, which is given annually to the best recipient in the country.

Chase is expected to be the first scale selected in the NFL Draft in 2021 and may be in the top 5.

The 6-foot 208-pound former five-star prospect from Harvey, Louisiana, played two seasons at LSU.

Combining with quarterback Joe Burrow, Chase helped the engineer publish one of the best seasons in the history of college football last year. The Tigers finished 15-0 after beating Clemson in the National College Football Championship. In this game, Chase came up with a huge catch of nine assists for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

There should now be a further recovery with quarterback Miles Brennan, who took over Burrow, and LSU is expected to have no top playmaker when the SEC autumn season begins on September 26.
