Apple is expanding surround sound support to macOS and tvOS. The feature will work with the company’s high-quality AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, using the device’s built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes to create a 3D audio effect that tracks the listener’s head movements.
Apple initially announced surround sound for AirPods Pro last year and impressed us with the captivating quality of the feature. At this year’s WWDC, the company expanded support for surround sound for Apple Music and FaceTime conversations.

Some retailers report that tvOS surround sound will only work with Apple TV 4K, and it’s unclear which Apple TV apps will support this feature. Or when support for surround sound will be available through other headphones on any platform. We have contacted Apple to find out more and will update this story if we hear in response.
