Salt Lake City – A man was arrested in connection with the lethal stabbing of his landlord in Salt Lake City. of Cory Haney, 40.
Salt Lake Police responded to a 911 call around 1:15 pm Thursday. When they arrived at 797 E. Northcliffe Drive (600 North), they discovered Haney inside with multiple wounds. He was declared dead at the scene, according to a prison report.
Detectives found that Bruce had called 911 to report "that he had stabbed his landlord," the report said. Bruce said he acted in self-defense.
However, "based on the evidence gathered from the crime scene, the detectives have reason to believe (Bruce) has been an aggressor in this lethal confrontation," according to the report. Police say Bruce has rented a room in Hany's house where the attack occurred, and they both live together. But the men knew each other before Bruce came in, according to the police. It is believed that the struggle between the two is not a matter of a landlord, the police said.
It was not immediately known how long Bruce had lived with Haney. As early as January, the court registered the home address of Bruce north of Ogden.
Bruce was treated for unsolved minor injuries at a local hospital before being imprisoned. , shop theft and quotes, but nothing about violent crimes.
