“After a breach of Old Trafford’s security, we can confirm that the Manchester United match against Liverpool will not start at 16:30 BST,” the Premier League live blog said.
“Everyone’s safety at Old Trafford is paramount. There is currently no revised start-up time.”
Manchester United and Manchester police did not immediately respond to CNN̵
“We are disgusted, embarrassed and angry by the owner’s actions in planning, forming and announcing the European Super League,” the Manchester United confidence team said at an emergency fan meeting on Friday.
“Once again, this clearly demonstrates that the club’s owners are only interested in increasing their own profits and are not interested in or respect the views of Manchester United fans.”
At the meeting, outgoing Manchester United vice-president Ed Woodward said the club was “not looking for any revival of Super League plans”.
“I know you will feel angry and frustrated by the lack of consultation and the way the proposal fails to recognize the vital principle of open competition. Proper discussion would help us avoid the mistake we made,” Woodward added.
“Like Joel [Glazer] said … we failed to give enough weight to the basic principles and traditions of sporting merit, which are so important for football not only in domestic competition but also in European competition since the mid-1950s. “
