Marvel Cinematic Universe stories are often in the worst condition when forced to enter a Marvel machine instead of finding new and interesting ways to interact with the machine, such as Thor’s sideways movement to the magical cave puddle. Avengers: Age Of Ultron or hoops that The Iron Man 2 jumps to try to bring back the Avengers Initiative from the first film. Disney + The falcon and the winter soldier it may have just been a TV separation of MCU, but it sounds like it feels like Marvel Studios’ heavy hand like any movie.
In a recent interview with Back, showrunner Malcolm Spelman revealed that some aspects of The falcon and the winter soldier were heavily dictated by Marvel, to the point where the people making the show didn’t even have a right to know about (or download characters from) the larger MCU. For example, these humble references to Steve Rodgers’ current location afterThe Avengers: The ultimate game they weren’t meant to be jokes about what he was actually up to while his friends were learning, and growing up and saving the world, they were included because the writers literally had no idea what happened to Steve Rodgers after as he gave his shield to Sam Wilson and wanted to find a fun way to dance around it.
Spellman sees this as a positive thing because they were able to come up with everything they wanted to say about Steve Rodgers without worrying about giving the wrong answer, but it’s quite embarrassing and annoying that Steve Rodgers apparently died or disappeared off screen and no one didn’t care enough to say give him a monument. Bucky and Sam don’t just talk about him as if he’s dead, they talk about him as if he died a while ago and they’ve come a long way.
Another issue, although this is very understandable, is that MCU chief Kevin Fage quickly disengages The falcon and the winter soldier a team of all sorts of ideas they might have for the opportunity to use other Marvel characters. The finaleThe big action happened in New York, Spider-Man’s home, but Spelman says Feige’s response when they started talking about attracting other characters was, “No. Stop. “He says Marvel is very strict about how crossovers” should happen organically, “which was obviously a good enough reason to TFATWS team to give up their dreams of Spider-Man, but … wouldn’t it be pretty organic if bad boys attacked New York? And wouldn’t it be easier to make it easier to rescue people from helicopters and stop super-strong bad guys with nets? See, we understand, Marvel will have to run it from Sony and pay Tom Holland to record some lines, so it would never happen, but Marvel took the trouble to build this whole universe and you have to know that people go ask about these things from time to time.
