Fox has had more recent health problems, including a 2018 operation to remove a non-cancerous tumor from his spine.
He writes that “The growing decline in my ability to download words and repeat them literally is just the last wave in the lake.”
“There is time for everything, and the time I put into a twelve-hour day and memorize seven pages of dialogue is best behind me,”
Fox became famous for his role in the comedy series Family Ties before making him big in movies, including the Back to the Future franchise and Teen Wolf, and returning to television in Spin City.
And while he writes that he will be late, don’t count him to the end.
“To be fair to myself and to producers, directors, editors and badly besieged screenwriters, not to mention actors who enjoy a slow pace, I’m entering a second retirement,” Fox wrote in his book.
“That can change because everything changes. But if this is the end of my acting career, so be it.”
