Miley Cyrus says she still “loves” her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth “very, very much” and reveals that the former couple never planned to get married.

During a candid interview with Howard Stern on Wednesday, the singer also revealed that she and the Australian actor never planned to get married after a 1
But she said that after a fire destroyed their home in Malibu in November 2018, it made her reevaluate things.

“I don’t know if we ever really thought we would actually get married,” said the 28-year-old star.
“I just stuck to what I had left of this house, which he and I were, and I really loved him and loved him very, very, very much.”
Miley and Liam, 30, were married in an intimate ceremony in December 2018, before separating just months later in August 2019.

“Liam and Miley agreed to separate at the time,” said a representative of the Wrecking Ball singer at PEOPLE at the time.
“Always evolving, changing as partners and personalities, they have decided that this is the best, as long as they both focus on themselves and their careers.”
Miley also talks about her relationship with the actor “Isn’t It Romantic” in the podcast “Call Her Dad” in August.

She said that when they finally decided to separate forever, it felt “like death.”
“I had a very public, very big separation, which was for a period of 10 years in a relationship … It’s like death when you lose such a deep love. It feels like death, she admitted.
She added: “Honestly, sometimes [death] it even feels easier because [with a breakup] man still walks the earth. ”

After their separation, Liam kept in touch with the Australian model Gabriela Brooks, with whom he started dating in December last year.
Miley, meanwhile, was enjoying a whirlwind relationship with Brody Jenner’s ex-wife, Caitlin Carter, but they separated in September 2019, just a month later.
Miley then began dating Australian singer Cody Simpson in October 2019, before splitting in August this year.
