MLB Postseason Kit Set: Here's What Is Still Online on the Last Day of the Regular Season

The last day of the 2019 regular season has arrived and the field after 10 seasons after 10 seasons is set for October. The Indians were the last outside team to look at and were eliminated from the postseason loss Friday night (WAS 8, CLE 3). We already know who will play in October.

Here's the post-season picture at the start of business on Sunday:

National League

The American League

The field after 1

0 seasons is set, but the bracket after the season is not yet final. Some seeds were harvested on Saturday, but there is still something on Sunday. Here's what was discovered on Saturday:

  • Athletics ranked first with wild card and thus home field advantage in the AL Wild Card game.
  • The citizens placed first with the Wild Card and thus the home field advantage in the NL Wild Card Game.
  • The Astros achieved the best record in baseball and thus the home run advantage in the World Series.
  • The Dodgers set the second-best record in baseball and thus have home-field advantage over any team except Houston.

One race remains undecided to enter Sunday and this is a big one: NL Central Title . The Cardinals (90-71) currently have a one-game lead over the Brewers (89-72). St. Louis and Milwaukee are not playing each other this weekend, so there will be plenty of backgammon to watch on Sunday.

The Brewers and Cardinals have set up a postseason spot so one team will win the division and the other will go out of their way to face the Nationals in the NL Wild Game Card. There are four possible results on Sunday and St. Louis is in the driver's seat given the team's lead for one game. Here's a breakdown of Sunday's possible results:

  • Cardinals win, Brewers lose: Cardinals win NL Central.
  • Cardinals win, Brewers win: Cardinals win NL Central. [19659007] Cardinals lose, brewers lose: Cardinals win NL Central.
  • Cardinals lose, Brewers win: Game 163 tiebreaker Monday in St. Louis to determine the central winner in the NL.

The Cardinals will host game 163 for the tiebreaker as they win the season series 10-9 over the Brewers. The only way the game happens is with the Brewers winning and losing the Cardinals. Everything else gives the title to the St. Louis Division.

On Sunday, the Cardinals will host the cubes at Bush Stadium and their ace Jack Flacharty will be on the mound. Flaherty has a 1.00 ERA with 124 goals in his last 15 starts and 99 1/3 innings. He was brilliant. Pitching Sunday means that Flaherty will not be available early in NLDS Game 2 on Friday.

The Brewers are in Colorado to play the Rockies on Sunday and Gaucher, and they suffered a heartbreaking loss on Saturday. Josh Heather quit Om Hilliard's game with two outs in the 9th inning, and then Matt Alberts sent a homer to Trevor Story. If the Brewers were able to close that victory, they would be tied to the central NL with the Cardinals right now.

Milwaukee will send Adrian Hauser (6-7, 3.86 ERA) to the mound Sunday. He has a 3.52 ERA in 11 starts and 53 2/3 innings since switching to the end of July. Brewers are currently tied to their spots. Hader and Drew Pomerantz have thrown four times in the last seven days, and Junior Guerra has thrown three times in the last four days.

The Brewers have found a postseason spot so they know they will play a game after Sunday. Whether it's the game of 163 on a tiebreaker on Monday or the NL Wild Card Game on Tuesday, it stays in the air. Manager Craig Counsell puts his foot on the throttle on Sunday and tries to force game 163, or holds guys back and puts the team in the best position to win a Wild Card game? It's a lot of managerial work.

As a reminder, every MLB game on Sunday starts at 3:05 p.m. ET. The Cardinals and Brewers will play simultaneously, so the NL Central race will be played in real time. One team will not have the luxury of knowing if the other team lost before starting their game, adding to the intrigue.

NL Central (and second place with open cards) is the only competition left. The other eight postseason teams are closed and have nothing on the line Sunday. The Cardinals and Brewers are the only major games in town.
