In an unusual business relationship, biotechnology Modern 09.30 NASDAQ: MRNA and king of riding Uber technology (NYSE: UBER) cooperate on a coronavirus vaccine awareness program.
According to a press release published jointly by the two companies, they “will initially work together to provide accessible and reliable information on vaccine safety through messages in the Uber … [and] work with public health and other organizations to identify additional opportunities to support ongoing efforts to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines. “
Moderna has developed and marketed one of only two coronavirus vaccines approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Its mRNA-1273 and Pfizer and BioNTechof BNT162b2, are currently distributed and administered throughout the country. Both releases are slow. Even if only slightly effective, this new initiative would be welcome.
In addition to raising awareness about coronavirus vaccines, Moderna and Uber are considering more direct ways to get Americans vaccinated. These include the incorporation of an Uber travel schedule into the immunization booking, among other measures.
In a press release, Moderna CEO Stefan Bansel said it was only the first in a series of collaborations on biotechnology.
“As part of our commitment to helping tackle COVID-19, Moderna will work with a coalition of partners to educate, build trust and raise awareness of the importance of vaccination in those communities that are heavily affected by the pandemic,” Bancel said. He does not identify these partners.
Last month, Uber pledged to provide 10 million free or reduced trips for people to get their vaccines. This initiative aims to serve people in disadvantaged communities.
