Montana federal judge blows up Trump-backed “fabrication” of massive voter fraud

The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee filed the case earlier this month after Democratic Montana Gov. Steve Bullock issued a directive allowing all counties in the state to move to a substantially full-mail system for the 2020 election. But the district judge Dana Christensen condemned Trump’s campaign on Wednesday and rejected his request to block the new voting rules.

In his ruling, the judge blew up the Trump-backed “fabrication” that there was widespread voter fraud in the US election.

“This case requires the Court to separate the facts from the fiction,”

; Christensen wrote. “… At the heart of some of the (Trump’s campaign) allegations is that the upcoming election, both nationally and in Montana, will fall victim to widespread voter fraud. However, the evidence shows that this allegation in Montana in particular, is a fabrication. “

There is strong evidence from election experts and others that “the use of mail ballots does not pose a significant risk of fraud,” added Christensen, who was appointed to the federal bench by former President Barack Obama in 2011.

Trump unleashed an avalanche of recurring lies at the first presidential debate

So far, Trump’s lawsuits in several countries across the country have failed to prevent the expansion of postal voting. A similar lawsuit was rejected in Nevada last week. Unlike Montana, which allows counties to hold elections by mail, the Nevada legislature has decided that all registered voters will automatically receive the ballot by mail.

Wednesday’s decision is a victory for Bullock because he supports the changes he has ordered. Bullock is running against Republican Sen. Steve Danes and could turn around if Democrats do better than expected in November.

In a statement, Bullock said: “I am pleased that today’s decision will allow hundreds of thousands of Montagnards to vote safely – in person or by mail – in the upcoming election. Montanans can rest assured that our local election administrators will maintain the security and integrity of the election process. . “
