Monahan did not specify how large the group of deputies in the hall was.
Two assistants to the chamber confirmed to The Washington Post that Monahan had in mind a room where dozens of members of the chamber were taken amid the riot. The video, first published by Punchbowl News, shows Republicans without masks – including representatives of Andy Biggs (Arizona), Michael Cloud (Texas), Marcine Mullin (Oklahoma) and Scott Perry (Pennsylvania) ̵
Monahan’s email advised lawmakers who may have been exposed to continue to monitor for symptoms, wearing masks and social distancing.
“In addition, people should receive an RT-PCR test for coronavirus next week as a precaution,” the email said.
So far, more than two million coronavirus cases have been reported in the United States this year, and for the first time, the seven-day average for new deaths exceeds 3,000 deaths a day, according to an analysis by the Washington Post. The daily death toll exceeded 4,000 for the first time just one day after Wednesday’s uprising. Experts have warned that the storming of the Capitol building could contribute to the public health crisis as a potential over-spreading event.
Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told McClatchy on Friday that “you have to anticipate that this is another wave event.”
“Then all these people go by cars, trains and planes that are coming home all over the country right now,” Redfield added. “So I think this is an event that is likely to lead to a significant spread.”
This is an evolving story.
