And you could help NASA achieve its goals.
NASA released a call Thursday for ideas on how to unload payloads from lunar landings. The Lunar Delivery Challenge launched on the HeroX crowdsourcing platform with a total prize pool of $ 25,000 (approximately £ 19,318, £ 35,559) for the best concepts.
“Payloads of various masses and volumes will be sent to the moon in one of several commercial landing sites, and once they arrive at the lunar South Pole, they must be unloaded,” the challenge said. “The size of these landers will vary depending on the requirements of the program, so ideally the solution should be flexible enough to handle different payloads that are unloaded from a number of different vehicles.”
NASA has offered a comprehensive set of guidelines for the challenge. The ideas will be evaluated on the basis of the quality of the proposal, the extent to which the equipment can work autonomously and can unload the payload, and the extent to which the design can work with different payloads and landers.
The challenge is open to individuals and teams, with a deadline of January 19, 2021. The winners will be announced on March 16, 2021.
