NASA’s solar probe becomes the fastest object ever built because it “touches the sun”




Nothing man-made has ever traveled faster than NASA’s Parker solar probe, a miniature, fire-resistant spacecraft the size of a small car. practical “touch of the sun”. At the end of April, he broke two wild records, dethroning the previous champion – who also turned out to be NASA’s Parker Solar Probe – and his journey really began.

The probe, which launched in August 2018 with a mission to study the sun, is flying closer and closer to the furnace of our solar system, using the planet Venus as a slingshot. On April 29, during his closest approach to the sun (known as the “perihelion”), Parker traveled at an almost incomprehensible speed – enough to orbit the Earth 13 times in an hour.

Parker set two new records as early as February 2020:

  • The fastest human object: 393,044 km / h.
  • Closest to the sun spaceship: 18.6 million kilometers.

But these records have already been broken. The new records are on:

  • The fastest man-made object: 532,000 km / h.
  • Closest to the sun spaceship: 10.4 million kilometers.

These are some strong records that need to be maintained and this is not the end either. Parker must break his own record later in the year when he uses another Venus flight for a slingshot closer to the sun. Perihelion is expected to appear on November 21.

Parker has already uncovered some of the great mysteries of the sun. In December 2019 Parker’s first batch of data was published in the prestigious journal Nature, pulling back the (incredibly bright) curtain on the charged particles and the plasma dynamics in the external atmosphere of the sun.
