Jane Lynch fondly remembered her ex joy co-star Naya Rivera today as a “force” whose talent was insufficiently recognized.
Lynch talks about Rivera during the fourth hour of today show on Wednesday, talking to Jenna Bush Hager. Rivera, 33, died last month from drowning in a California lake.
“She was a force of nature and it just makes her shiver and heartbreak that she’s gone,” Lynch told Rivera, who played high school cheerleader Santana Lopez in the Fox series for six seasons. Lynch played cheerleading coach William McKinley Sue Sylvester.
“I had tripartite monologues, and so did she. It took me a week to get mine – she would make them right away from the bat. She would change them, and there was no problem with that. “
Lynch also noted Rivera’s influence on LGBTQ young people through his work on the show. Rivera depicts Lopez’s relationship with Brittany S. Pierce, a character played by Heather Morris.
