NBC News foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell insisted in her report Tuesday night that the Abrahamic agreements signed by Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain did not constitute “Middle East peace.”
President Trump was joined by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan and Bahrain Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa to sign the Abrahamic Accords, something the president hailed as a “dawn dawn.” “
On NBC Nightly News, however, host Lester Holt began the segment by hinting at Mitchell’s report, saying that while the agreement “normalizes nations and brings them closer together,”

“With splendor and circumstance, the president heralds the first Arab states to recognize Israel since 1994,” Mitchell said. “Both sides have been dealing quietly with Israel for years, sharing intelligence against Iran, a common enemy.”
She continued: “But today’s agreements open the door to trade, travel and tourism. But this is not peace in the Middle East.”
She went on to describe how the Palestinians were “abandoned by their Arab neighbors” and left “powerless to do anything but protest.”
Mitchell called Trump and Netanyahu, whom she described as “two political leaders in battle” as the “big winners” of the agreement.
“And the president can present himself as a peacemaker,” he said, a Nobel Prize winner 49 days before the election, Mitchell concluded.

NBC News is not the only news that downplays the significance of the historic agreement. CNN spent much of its programming focused on the potential health risks of the White House event, which honored the pandemic agreements.
The anti-Trump network has disgraced the Trump administration for the “big crowd” and “small social distancing” that occurred, suggesting that the event could be a super spread of the coronavirus.
