During Launch Night In, Google unveiled Nest Audio, a major overhaul of the original Google Home speaker, and is available on Oct. 5 for $ 99.
At last year’s Made by Google event, the company updated the popular Home Mini speaker and included it under the Nest brand. This year, the Nest speaker lineup expands with a new $ 99 speaker to fit perfectly into the gap left by the original Google Home speaker, which launched in 2016 and was recently discontinued.
Just as we saw in Google’s teaser back in July, Nest Audio is taking on the shape of a pillow, which should help it blend well into any home. And to better suit your personal design taste, the speaker is available in a variety of colors, including chalk, charcoal, sand, sky and green “Sage”
Like the Home Mini, Nest Mini and Nest Wifi speakers before it, the new Nest Audio supports touch controls to adjust the volume and more. The upper left and upper right corners process the sound up and down, respectively, while the space between them acts as a large play / pause button. At the back you will find a physical switch to mute the microphone, along with the power jack.
As for the actual audio from Nest Audio, the built-in 19mm speaker and the 75mm smart speaker speaker should offer an impressive experience closer to the larger Home Max speaker than Google’s previous mid-range offering. And as always, you can double up with a second Nest Audio and pair them to get the right stereo sound in your room.
Overall, Nest Audio creates a fantastic package that should be the best Google Nest speaker for most people. More importantly, you can buy the new smart speaker on October 5 for $ 99 – $ 30 less than the original Google Home – in the Google Store.
This article initially announced that Nest Audio will be available today and has been updated to reflect the official release date of October 5th.
