So with all the chaos of the past week, you may have missed Friday as the last episode of Danger! with Alex Trebek as host. Trebeck, who died in November at the age of 80 after battling cancer, hosted the show for answers and questions for 37 years. The show has released the best reel of Trebeck’s performances over the years (remember the noise when he shaved his mustache ?!) and can make you tear up a bit. My favorite rating of Trebeck was by James Ponievozik in New York Times,, which concludes: “He was our confidant with the answers, even in times when reality came to us in the form of a question.”
New trailers are coming out this week, from dark and scary to weird to disturbing (which, to be completely honest, I prefer all of the above to syrupy holiday movies). Let’s go.
The loss of Alice
A filmmaker who worries about his age meets a mysterious screenwriter on a train and the two are involved in a strange relationship. I love a good noir movie. Alice’s Loss was written and directed by Seagal Avin. Ayelet Zurer and Lihi Kornowski star in the eight-episode streaming series, which premieres on Apple TV Plus on January 22.
Look, I just love Anne Hathaway, so I’m willing to give at least everything she has, at least a chance. A couple quarantined during the pandemic as soon as they decided to separate, me, well. But plot twist,, they are also planning jewelry with jewelry at Harod’s department store to steal a million-dollar diamond. Now I’m on board. Chiwetel Ejiofor (another favorite) also participates in Lockedwhich hit HBO Max on Jan. 14.
Derek DelGaudio In & Of Itself
What is this strangeness for? Simply put, this is a one-man show by Derek Delguadio, who describes himself as a “storyteller and conceptual magician.” The IndieWire review says it’s a combination of “stage fraud and enticing autobiographical sides,” which is also “meditation on existential longing.” Hey, I’m for everything. Directed by Frank Oz and produced by Stephen Colbert (yes and yes!), In & of yourself hits Hulu on January 22nd.
Stanley Tucci and Colin Firth have been playing partners for 20 years, traveling around England to visit family and friends. However, this is not just a beautiful travel film; Tuci Tusker’s character has dementia and is slowly losing his memory, so the couple is aware of the value of the time they have left together. Supernova will hit theaters on January 29 with a “digital edition” on February 16.
