NFL 2021 Project: UPDATED 1st Round Model after Jets trades Sam Darnold with Panthers, target Zach Wilson; Justin Fields falls when Carolina passes QB

On Monday, the Jets traded quarterback Sam Darnold with the Panthers.

So they will not trade down from the general choice № 2 in the 2021 NFL Draft. They will certainly take BYU quarterback Zack Wilson there. And it looks like the Panthers won’t make a quarterback – like Justin Fields of Ohio – at number eight.

In the light of the Darnold trade, here is our latest full initial draft:

. Jaguars – QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson

There is no doubt about that.

2. JetsQB Zack Wilson, BYU

Will he do better than Sam Darnold?

3. 49ers (from Dolphins / Texas) – QB Trey Lance, North Dakota

49ers traded to get a quarterback. The only question: will it be Lance or Justin Fields?

4. Falcons – TE Kyle Pitts, Florida

One of the most talented players in this project, but the Falcons will need a new quarterback at some point.

5. Bengalis – CB Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech

Something surprising here, as some analysts consider Patrick Surtain to be the best angle of this project.

6. Dolphins (from Eagles) – WR DeVonta Smith, Alabama

The size will be a concern in the NFL for the Heisman Trophy winner.

7. Lions – OT Penney Sewell, Oregon

Some protection for the new Lions quarterback Jared Goff.

8. Panthers – Edge rusher Kwity Paye, Michigan

No need to bring Fields here now, after the Darnold trade.

9. Broncos – QB Justin Fields, Ohio

Some surprise, as the Broncos decided to pull out the Drew Lock plug.

10. Cowboys – Edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, Georgia

Paye will be the preferred option if available.

11. GiantsOT / G Rashawn Slater, Northwest

The receiver is also an option for the Giants, but they just signed Kenny Golladay. The line remains a massive problem.

12. Eagles (out of 49) – WR Jalen Waddle, Alabama

Another surprise here when the Eagles walk down Ja’Marr Chase to take Waddle. Will Howie Roseman regret it?

13. Chargers – WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU

Justin Herbert will be as excited about this choice as he should be.

14. Vikings – CB Patrick Surtain, Alabama

Defensive head coach Mike Zimmer is in the hot spot, and Surtain will help strengthen his minor.

15. Patriots – WR Kadarius Toney, Florida

No quarterback in this year’s draft for the Patriots. May be next year.

16. Cardinals – OT Alex Kozhud, Alabama

The Cardinals go all-in this season. They will need more than Kyler Murray and his line.

17. Forwards – C Creed Humphrey, Oklahoma

Definitely the best prospect for a center available this year.

18. Dolphins – Julan Phillips, Miami

Was he superior to his Miami counterpart, Gregory Rousseau?

19. Washington – LB Micah Parsons, Penn State

He has a top 15 talent, but he just doesn’t play a position that strong.

20. Bears – CB Tyson Campbell, Georgia

Don’t exclude Jesse Horn here, as the Bears are trying to replace Kyle Fuller.

21. Colts – OT Teven Jenkins, Oklahoma

Some protection for the new quarterback of Colts Carson Wentz.

22. Titans – DL Christian Barmore, Alabama

Some help for the middle of the Tennessee defensive line.

23. Aircraft (from Seahawks) – CB Jaycee Horn, South Carolina

Joe Douglas generally has to take a high angle this year.

24. Steelers – QB Mac Jones, Alabama

The possible replacement for Ben Rotlisberger in Pittsburgh?

25. Jaguars (from Aries) – RB Najee Harris, Alabama

Weapon for Lawrence, as he will start on Day 1.

26. Brown – LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame

It’s not a sexy choice, but it will greatly help protect the Browns.

27. Garvani – Edge rusher Jayson Oweh, Penn State

His daily lineup is clearly growing, but last season he had no bags.

28. Saints – WR Rondale Moore, Purdue

Another talented receiver with a concern for size as it is only 5 feet-9.

29. Packers – OT Christian Darisov, Virginia Tech

It won’t make as many waves as the packers who robbed Jordan Love at the end of round 1 last year.

30. Accounts – Edge Rusher Gregory Rousseau, Miami

Many questions about him. Limited band since he gave up last season. But he is a talent.

31. Chiefs – OL Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC

He can play multiple points on the line – an asset that bosses could use.

32. Spicy – CB Greg Newsome, Northwest

Todd Bowles gets another piece for his quietly dominant defense.
