No brand is safe from Fortnite



From this week in Fortnite, you can make the Predator dance to Pele’s victory while mastering the pickaxe of TheGrefg’s gamepad. He played a stream from Faze Clan on Thursday Fortnite with a star from Manchester City while wearing Manchester City skins. Battle Royale’s hit has long been known as a cross-promotional game, but developer Epic Games has recently taken things to a whole new level.

Crossovers like these are by no means new Fortnite. The last season of the game was a multi-month shuffle of Marvel, there were numerous star Wars-theme cosmetics, other real streams added to the game include Tyler “Ninja”

; Blevins and Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten and there were even concerts (and accompanying cosmetics during the game) featuring great artists like Travis Scott and Marshmelo.

For me, crossovers are part of the continuing appeal of Fortnite – Where else can I play as Kratos and face the Iron Man? – and each new addition helps Epic build the best virtual world. But crossovers also give Epic opportunities to bring in more money, which can help make up for the lack of iOS play. The Battle Royale hit is free to play, so each brand’s new look is a chance for Epic to get people to pay for in-game items during the game or sell one of their seasonal battles.

Don’t expect the crossovers to stop soon. The predator has just joined Fortnite, but Epic is already annoying the arrival of Sarah Connor from The terminator franchise. That probably means there will be Terminator cyborg skin – and if there is, that means you’ll be able to pit the Terminator against the Predator in a battle for centuries. Just hope Mando doesn’t collide.
