FaceTime receives several upgrades in the comingan operating system that will make it look and work faster and , including participant network view and call scheduling. The new operating system will also bring to FaceTime, which will make people sound as if they are coming from their position on the screen, for a more natural feeling. But perhaps the most exciting thing is opening up access to non-Apple devices – at least when using a web browser.
iOS 15 will usually be released in the fall. (Herenow.) Once you’ve downloaded the new operating system, here’s how you’ll be able to join FaceTime calls, no matter what device you’re using.
How to join a FaceTime call from your Android or Windows device
If you’re using an Android or Windows device and you have a friend or family member with an Apple device, they can send you a link to a FaceTime call via text, email, WhatsApp, or a calendar invitation. Once you get the link, all you have to do is click on it and it will open in your browser. You can join the conversation from there. It is!
One note about this update: To schedule or start a conversation with FaceTime, you’ll need an Apple device and an Apple account. You can then create a sharing link to invite others who can join from your browser on Android or Windows devices – no Apple account is required. But these participants will not be able to join the conversation until the Apple user who set it up approves them.
Apple told WWDC that even on the web, FaceTime calls are always end-to-end encrypted.
