MIAMI – Ohio State has started defensive games with Tommy Togia, defensive end Tyrek Smith and kicker Blake Howale will miss the National College Football Championship on Monday night against Alabama.
A total of 13 players were included in the team’s absence report, including two other defensive crews. The backup kicker Dominic DiMaccio is also not available.
Alabama successor Jalen Waddle has a chance to play for the first time since breaking his right ankle against Tennessee on October 24. Waddle participates in pre-game warm-ups.
Coach Nick Saban told ESPN’s Alison Williams that if Waddle played, it would be limited.
“That decision depends on him,”
In a message posted on Instagram, Haubeil said it was positive for COVID-19 and was asymptomatic, but he was extremely upset that he missed the game.
“I have spent the last four months sacrificing and have never seen family or friends. … Knowing that I still have so much to give and I can’t afford to do it tonight is one of the most gut-wrenching feelings I’ve ever had, “he wrote.
Without Togiai, look for Jerron Cage to get extended playing time. Spare Ty Hamilton is also not available. When Smith comes out, Tyler Friday will be the next player.
Bucky will turn to freshman Jake Seibert to kick. Seibert made 13 attempts for an extra point and missed his only attempt to score on the field.
