Olympia Dukakis, best known for her Oscar-winning film Moonstruck, Has passed away. She was 89 years old.
Dukakis’ brother Apollo announced the news of her death on Facebook on Saturday.
“My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, died this morning in New York. After many months of deteriorating health, she is finally at peace and with her Louis,” he wrote, referring to her late husband and Broadway veteran Luis Zoric. .
Dukakis won an Oscar for his role in Moonstruck. The 1987 romantic comedy followed a widow, played by Cher, who fell in love with her fiancé’s brother. Dukakis played Cher’s mother.
