Pennsylvania to start vaccinating cops, teachers “soon”

Pennsylvania will soon start vaccinating people aged 75 and over and “key workers” such as police officers, grocery store employees and teachers, the state health secretary said Monday. She was not specific about the time, but said the second group, called 1B, would be eligible to receive the vaccine before everyone in the first group was vaccinated. Phase 1B of the national coronavirus vaccination plan also includes people aged 75 and over as key frontline workers, a huge and diverse group that includes the clergy; first responders; prison guards; school staff; and workers in food, manufacturing, postal transport, public transport and grocery stores. To date, the federal government has dispensed more than 827,000 doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in Pennsylvania. More than 285,000 photos have been taken, although Levine said the actual number will certainly be higher, as reporting from hospitals and pharmacies is one to three days behind. Some providers already vaccinate people in the second group when they do not have someone in the first group easily available to get it. Levine said everything was fine. “We don’t want the vaccine to be lost,” she said.
