A New York police officer was found dead on Saturday afternoon with a self-shot shot, police chief Terens Monahan said on Saturday. h, sources of law enforcement have reported. They were concerned when he did not come to work and went to check it out.
The NYPD Police Volunteer Association wrote that the officer was a sergeant, but he did not give any further details.

The officer is the fifth member of the New York Police to commit suicide since the beginning of June.
New York Police Commissar James O'Neill said last month that the department had a "crisis" after three officers took their lives for 10 days.

According to Blue HELP, a nonprofit organization that tracks law enforcement suicides, at least 106 police officers committed suicide in 2019. The same organization registered 167 suicides of officers in 2018 and 169 in 2017
