On Monday, Porsche unveiled the Taycan 4S, the third version of its all-electric vehicle. The
4S, which will offer a battery option with performance, looks like the Taycan that Porsche unveiled in September. And really, inside all Taycans, including the 4S, are the same chassis and suspension, permanent magnet synchronous motors and other bits.
But this version is a little lighter, cheaper and a bit slower than the high-end versions of Taycan that were only released seven weeks ago.
Porsche has always said that there will be multiple versions of the Taycan. In September, the German carmaker revealed what an initial $ 1
Meanwhile, the basic version of the Porsche Taycan 4S is over $ 80,000 cheaper than its flagship model.
The 4S will come with two battery sizes. The standard 4S starts at $ 103,800 and comes with a 79.2 kWh battery and a pair of electric motors that produce 429 horsepower (320 kW). With startup control on, horsepower jumps to 522.
Customers who choose battery performance plus the 4S version will spend at least $ 110,370 on a vehicle with 93.4 kWh and twin electric motors that can produce up to (420 kW).
Both 4S have a top speed of 155 mph and can travel from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
The Taycan 4S is scheduled to arrive in US dealers in the spring of 2020.
The 4S does not match the Turbo S, the most powerful Taycan, which has 616bhp.
(or 751 hp with starter control included). The Turbo S has a maximum torque of 774 lb-ft and can travel from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. Of course, this kind of power comes at a price. The Taycan Turbo S starts at $ 185,000.
Porsche has not yet released estimates for the EPA battery range for 4S – either for Turbo S or Turbo for that matter. The EPA's coverage of the North American market for all vehicles is forthcoming. According to European estimates from WLTP, the Turbo S can travel 256 miles in a single charge while the Turbo has a range of 280 miles.
