Possible norovirus epidemic hurts students, closes Victorville Elementary School Friday



VICTORVILLE, California (KABC) – Victorville Elementary School was closed Friday after several students reported they were ill.

Adelanto County Elementary School district officials decided to close Gus Franklin Jr. Elementary School symptoms including fever, vomiting and diarrhea.

They say there are no laboratory-confirmed cases of norovirus or flu, but infected students have visited the lunch area and rode at least one bus.

Officials are now working to renovate the school, which is expected to reopen on Monday.

Norovirus can cause inflammation of the stomach or intestines, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

2 to 48 hours after exposure to the virus and most people recover within 1 to 3 days, reports the CDC.
