Predictions for Gonzaga vs. Baylor: NCAA Championship Selection, Odds, Distribution, Lines for March Madness

zags-timme-suggs

The field started with 68 hungry teams and now, after all the smoke has cleared, we have reached the last two. Following in the footsteps of one of the most exciting NCAA tournaments in modern history, the two teams that started the season at No. 1

and No. 2 – Gonzaga and Baylor – will meet for the national title on Monday night in Indianapolis. The Bears roamed the Final Four against Houston in their match, while the Bulldogs needed overtime and a semicircle from freshman Jalen Sugs to reach UCLA number 11.

Both teams have played in a title game before and failed. Zags fell in North Carolina in 2017 when they set a similar record in the title game. The Bears did not appear until 1948, when they fell in Kentucky. Reminder: the tournament field about 70 years ago? Only eight teams. Now Scott Drew was assigned to lead Baylor through a field of 68!

The Baylor we saw in this tournament is a mid-season Baylor who destroyed every team in his path. It was Baylor’s team that led the entire basketball college for most of the season in goals before Gonzaga. But I can’t choose against Zags – neither straight up, nor even against the numbers. It felt like a team of fate for a while, and Sags’ 3-point bank fired at the OT buzzer against UCLA only confirmed that to me. Baylor will have their tracks and it will be a real chess game back and forth, but I take the best shooting team with 2 points in decades to win the best shooting team with 3 points in the country. Forecast: Gonzaga 82, Baylor 77 – Boone
