President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden kicked out the British media – to get the table in the pub they wanted, a video shows.
John Sopel, the BBC’s editor for North America, was sitting in the courtyard of Tregana Castle in Cornwall on Thursday when he seemed surprised by the unexpected arrival of the commander-in-chief and his wife.
“First in my career. @POTUS comes and sits at the table in the bar next to me and orders a drink. I’m trying to act carelessly, “he tweeted, along with a video in which he shouted,” How’s it going, Mr. President? ” Are you enjoying yourself here? “
But the BBC team was soon forced to gather their belongings to hand over their table to POTUS and FLOTUS ̵
BBC producer Morgan Gischolt Minard shared a second video showing her gathering all her belongings to leave the table while the president, dressed in sneakers, stood in a chair at one end and waited for him to leave.
“I’m at the BBC, so … I’m glad to meet you,” she told the president, whose wife immediately approached the table as the charged producer walked away.
Gischolt Minar did not seem too offended to lose what was probably the best place in the castle, built in 1774.
“There are few cases in which I would feel compelled to give up my dining table … I guess this is an exception,” she wrote on Twitter. “Welcome to Cornwall @POTUS.”
Sopel teased her that “not once, not once did he stand up to make way for me.”
They did not appear to have been moved too far, but Sopel later said the president simply drank Coca-Cola while the first lady drank a glass of red wine.
“There is no beer, no cider, no pasta,” he said, referring to traditional tariffs in the seaside town.
While many followers annoyed the BBC team for not refusing to back down, others gave up more on their gushing response to the world leader.
“Try not to drool too much over Sleepy Joe.” I know you’re from the BBC, but you can do it, “Ben Q, an editor at El American, tweeted.
Referring to the so-called exchange of Sopel – in which he also said that “they can handle more sun”, the writer Austin Williams wrote on Twitter to the reporter “Insightful issues. Keep the truth in power. “
