If you’ve ever considered buying a special e-reader, Amazon will once again have deep discounts for some of its Kindle e-readers as part of Prime Day 2020, which begins on Tuesday, October 13th. At $ 80, the Kindle Paperwhite will yield $ 50, which is $ 5 less than the previous one for the product. We think this will be a particularly popular deal for Prime Day.
Prime Day is also a good time to check out the Kindle entry-level children̵
In addition, Amazon will offer a $ 5 credit for “each Kindle book” with the purchase of select Kindle devices.
Like most other Prime Day sales, they are expected to begin on Tuesday, October 13 at 12:01 a.m. PT and run for up to 48 hours. If you don’t see the deal you were hoping for, don’t lose hope – our experience has shown that there are probably other deals for Prime Day Kindle.
It’s unclear whether the Kindle Oasis or the higher-end Kindle (non-Kids Edition) will also sell, but we’ll keep track of their prices, as Amazon often misses unforeseen deals (in addition to a lightning-fast deal or two) on its devices in Prime Day. If you are looking for other lists of Amazon devices, check out our coverage on.

This is the Gold in the Amazon line and our current selection of CNET editors in the category. Here are some things we love about the Kindle Paperwhite:
- It is 10% thinner and lighter than the previous version.
- It has a “front” design with a back made of softer, gripping material instead of hard plastic.
- It’s a completely waterproof Kindle, like the high-end Kindle Oasis, and has a plastic screen that Amazon says is tear-resistant and scratch-resistant.
- It has built-in Bluetooth, so you can download Amazon Audible audiobooks and listen to them with a wireless headset.
Keep in mind that Amazon may update the Kindle Paperwhite in 2020 (released in November 2018). If and when this happens, it is not clear to what extent it will be an upgrade. For example, a USB-C charge can be added and the lighting scheme may be updated, but we would not expect dramatic improvements. Read our review of the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2018).

The latest iteration of Amazon’s initial e-book reader, which Amazon simply calls the Kindle, now has a self-illuminating screen and an improved design. Priced at $ 90, this e-book reader costs $ 10 more than the previous Kindle 2016, but this Kindle regularly sells for only $ 60. We prefer the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, which has a high-resolution display (text and images look small sharper), is waterproof and has a slightly better lighting scheme. But if you don’t want to spend a lot on an e-reader, the standard Kindle is a good option, especially when it’s discounted.
The children’s edition sold here includes a case – there are 4 choices, along with the year of Amazon Kids Plus (FreeTime Unlimited), which usually costs $ 3 a month and gives you access to hundreds of children’s books. Amazon Kids Plus includes the full Harry Potter series and the first book in other popular series such as Artemis Fowl.
