Prince Harry's name has dominated the headlines for the past few days, but not for good reason. King and his wife, Megan Markle, have sunk to use private jets after speaking out on environmental issues and vowing to reduce their carbon footprint. Now the British media have given themselves a new nickname to Harry and have called him "Carbon Footprince".
Here are some more of the damage the couple receives from critics who tried to protect the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Prince Harry ” class=”wp-image-1229127″/>
Four Private Airplanes in 11 Days
As environmental activists, protecting and delaying the effects of climate change, the prince and former actress are furiously attracted by fans and the media as they embark on four private jets for 11 days. The choice of the duke and duchess to travel with his infant son Archie was met with much criticism, especially after the Prince's recent comments.
During an interview with nature conservationist Jane Goodall in the September issue of Vogue Magazine, which was edited by Markle's guests, Harry spoke of the need for everyone to reduce their carbon footprint.
"I always thought this place was busy," said the prince. "And surely, if we are as intelligent as we all are, or evolved as we all should be, we must be able to leave something better for the next generation."
Harry is also quoted as saying, "With nearly 7.7 billion people living on this Earth, every choice, every footprint, every action counts. "
Harry is dubbed" Carbon Footprince "and" hypocrite "
The Duke also raised eyebrows just a few weeks ago , when he flies by private jet and helicopter to the Google Summit on Climate Change in Sicily, Italy. Since then, he and Markle have been accused of "not practicing what they preach" and Harry has been dubbed "Carbon Footprince."
They have also been labeled "hypocrites" because, as The Washington Post noted, "they travel using a private jet produces several times more carbon dioxide than buying an economical commercial flight. The average American is responsible for about 16 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This is already three times the global average, but it is only a small fraction of what private jets produce in a typical year. "
" Given the position they have taken publicly to be responsible for climate change, this seems like an anomaly that they need to look at, "Labor MP Teresa Pierce said. "It's up to us to reduce our carbon footprint and the number of flights we take in a year. This is really important – and someone with such a high profile should lead by example. I find this quite surprising because it does not fit into their public image and the way they are so concerned about the planet and the environment. "
Elton John for help?
Following the backlash, Sir Elton John intervened to protect them. John said he and her husband are borrowing a grand private jet to avoid using taxpayer dollars. The musician also claims that the aircraft used "carbon neutral fuel".
But that may have fallen on deaf ears when just a few days later several future kings were seen flying advertising.
Prince William, along with his wife Kate Middleton and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis embarked on a flight on a FlyBe to Scotland.
