The Lions created extra payroll space on Friday.
They restructured the contract of the lifeback Jamie Collins, reports Mike Garafolo from NFL Media.
Collins, 32, was entering the second year of a three-year deal. He had to make $ 8.8 million in basic salary and account for $ 11.3 million of the upper limit.
The Lions added empty years to reduce the number of their hats for Garafolo.
In his first season in Detroit in 2020, Collins made 101 games, interceptions, sacks, six passes and two forced interceptions.
In his eight seasons in the NFL, Collins had 676 fights, 11 interceptions, 25.5 sacks, 19 forced tussles and 36 breakups.
