Researchers from Stanford take the world’s first photo with 3200 megapixels



You will need 378 4K ultra high resolution screens to display this image in full size. Imagine being able to see a 25-mile golf ball. Its low-light capabilities can also detect objects 100 million times darker than what we can see with the human eye.

The reason for its creation is to study dark matter and shoot “the greatest astronomical film of all time” and it will be installed in the Stanford Telescope for the Legacy of Space and Time (LSST) in Chile.

The camera has 189 sensors, called dual-charge (CCD) devices, which have 16 megapixels each and are now the largest digital camera in the world.

Interestingly, it contains 3.2 billion pixels, which are very small. This is different from the latest version of the Sony a7S III, which contains larger pixels for performance in low light conditions. But it gives you the high resolution they are aiming for here.
