Ring’s latest security camera is a drone flying in your house

The latest home security camera is ringing literally. The new Always Home Cam is a stand-alone drone that can fly in your home to give you the perspective of any room you want when you’re not home. When finished, the Always Home Cam returns to the dock to charge its battery. It is expected to cost $ 249.99 when delivery begins next year.

Jamie Siminoff, founder of the Ring and “chief inventor,” says Always Home Cam’s idea is to provide multiple views across the home without the need for multiple cameras. In an interview before the announcement, he said that the company has spent the last two years in focused development of the device and that it is “an obvious product that is very difficult to build.”

; Thanks to advances in drone technology, the company is able to make a product like this and make it work at will.

Always Home Cam is completely autonomous, but the owners can tell it which road it can take and where it can go. When you first pick up the device, you build a map of your home to follow, which allows you to request it for specific views such as the kitchen or bedroom. The drone may be commanded to fly on demand or programmed to fly when a disturbance is detected by a connected Ring alarm system.

The docking station blocks the camera view and the camera only records when in flight. Ring says the drone makes a sound when it flies, so it’s obvious when taking pictures.

Ring says the camera can be used for simple things like checking if the stove is left or the window is left open or if the door is locked when you are away from home. It has obstacle avoidance technology that allows it to avoid objects in its path, and wrapped propellers prevent damage to property or injury to a pet or person who may collide with the drone.

It’s easy to say that this is Ring’s most ambitious product to date, and it will be very interesting to see if it really works as promised. We will have to wait until next year to find out.
