The New York State Council has authorized an independent investigation into the city’s work on the arrest and death of Daniel Prud. The law approves a maximum of $ 100,000 to fund the company, according to the bill. The bill went from eight to zero.
Prude’s family’s lawyers recently released a video on the police camera showing police covering his head with a “spit sock” and holding him lying on the ground before he could breathe. Pond was pronounced brain dead at a hospital, where he died on March 30.
The company conducting the investigation will consider internal communications and proceedings related to Prude̵
The new legislation also includes the abolition of funding and permission for a new police station and neighborhood center, which was handed over seven to one.
Legislation approving the project was passed on August 18th, and the city has not yet issued bonds or signed contacts related to the project, a press release said.
Municipal council members discussed that while the project is already under way, they plan to consider other land uses.
The council also passed legislation to transfer family and victim services and funding to the Department of Recreation and Youth Services, which previously housed the Rochester Police Department. The bill went from eight to zero.
Warren had previously voiced support for the transfer of services to family and victims and for an independent investigation.
