With three minutes left in the third quarter, Russell Westbrook walked up the sideline during a stoppage of play, and a young fan sitting in the courtyard reached out and hit him on the arm. Westbrook turned around and stared at him.
"He hit me," Westbrook said, "So I told his father, 'be careful, man, you can not have your son just hitting random people. I do not know him, he does not know me. So, just letting him know, 'You just got to control your kids.' "
At the end of the conversation, Westbrook gave the young fan a reassuring pat on the leg. Westbrook said at first he did not know who had touched him. He just felt contact
"For all fans though, there's too much leeway for fans to be able to touch the players and get away with it, and then you can not react and do the things we need to do to protect ourselves. … But I can not do anything. What am I going to do, hop in the stands? "
